Historique :	Nous proposons de reconnaître en cette statuette un précieux vestige d'un ancien reliquaire dont l'existence est attestée à Saint-Jean-le-Vieux vers 1350, la 'dent de saint Pierre'. Nous pensons que la statuette de saint Pierre, qui surmontait l'un des 'bras' ou branches du reliquaire, sauvée de la destruction en même temps que la relique, est celle qui fut placée sur le nouveau reliquaire, confectionné sans doute vers 1803, année où l'église Saint-Jean fut officiellement rendue au culte de l'ex-clergé constitutionnel réconcilié.
