Historique :	Fenouillet possédait un important château fort, siège d'un vicomté de l'ancien pays de Besalu. Bien que languedocien par la langue, le pays gravitait donc dans l'orbite catalane. Le chapiteau qui appartient à la production des ateliers romans roussillonnais peut provenir de la chapelle du château, aujourd'hui détruite. Ce chapiteau était anciennement utilisé comme support à un bénitier.

Précision sur_l'état :	Oeuvre restaurée en 2013 par Emmanuelle Forestier et Fabienne Bois.
Précision_sur la representation :	Il s'agit d'un chapiteau figuré qui se compose d'un astragale sur lequel repose les pattes de lion, représentés au niveau de la corbeille. L'abaque ne présente pas d'éléments décoratifs, il vient accentuer les angles et le centre de chacune des faces. Ce chapiteau est orné de lions affrontés, les bêtes dressées rejettent leurs têtes dans les angles du chapiteau, une seule tête est représentée pour deux corps. Les yeux sont incrustés par une pierre noire et du plomb. De leur gueule partent des fleurons. Les crinières bouclées sont traitées avec soin, on distingue plusieurs trous de trépan placés à divers endroits.
