Description :	le retable se divise en trois registres à trois travées. Le premier registre accueille trois sculptures en ronde bosse scandés par des colonnes torses (saint Augustin, saint Jean-Baptiste et saint Gaudérique). Le troisième registre représente trois panneaux en haut-relief représentant des scènes de la vie de saint Jean-Baptiste (naissance, saint Jean-Baptiste prêchant dans le désert et le baptême du Christ). Pour le couronnement, l'enfant saint Jean-Baptiste et l'agneau occupent le centre encadré de deux pots à fleurs.

Historique :	Les fondations de l'église d'Espira remontent au 11e siècle. une communauté de chanoines de l'ordre de saint Augustin s'installe au 12e siècle et participe au mouvement de la réforme grégorienne de la région. Bruno Tollon a attribué ce retable à Paul Sunyer et Louis Baixa dans sa thèse de 3ème cycle de Toulouse le Mirail en 1972.
